Get well soon, Mayor Barrett!

I was shocked — legitimately shocked — when I heard that Mayor Barrett had been attacked last night. He was attacked, it appears, for doing the right thing, calling the police (well, 911) to get the cops to intervene in domestic violence that was happening right there on the street. Right-wingers has been asking if he’ll change his anti-concealed carry stance, but they seem to be overlooking the fact that he did fight back, thus breaking his hand. And the f***head who assaulted him has been arrested. Mayor Barrett did the right thing.

I am sending him a get-well card, and I encourage you to do the same. Here’s the address of his office:

Office of the Mayor
200 E. Wells Street
City Hall Rm. 201
Milwaukee, WI 53202

Get well soon, Mr. Mayor!

Update: Mayor Barrett went home on Monday, August 17. Yay!

Update 2: Patty Pritchard Thompson from the Bay View Neighborhood Association gathered “a whole pile of cards that people did last night at [Chill on the Hill].” She will “run them over to City Hall today!” Thanks, Patty!

I am a resident of the Bay View neighborhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a member of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. That sometimes comes up on here, as it's kind of a small part of my life. No official county business happens here. I'm mostly using this now to give a rough draft account of how we're dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. God help us all.

  1. oops – that didn’t work. Let me try again.

Here’s a pic I took at Chill on the Hill of people making cards for Barrett. It’s on the Bay View Neighborhood Association’s Flickr site.

    Get Well, Mayor Barrett
