Polling group finds Sen. Feingold would be in excellent standing against Tommy

Comments Off

Public Policy Polling released poll results showing that Senator Feingold looks very difficult to beat, even if former Gov. Tommy Thompson should enter the race.

“The upshot of that is Feingold leads Thompson 50-41 in a hypothetical contest. Feingold leads 47-41 with independents, a rarity for Democrats anywhere these days, and wins 88% of his party’s vote while only 82% of Republicans commit to voting for Thompson. If you lead with independents and have your party more unified around you and you’re a Democratic Senator in a blue state you don’t have much to worry about.” [Link.]
Other polls show Feingold-Wall at 48% to 34%, and Feingold-Westlake at 47% to 32%.
WPRI did a poll last month that showed Thompson winning. But we need to remember, Tommy’s not in the race at all so far.

Personally, I’m waiting for Tommy to run for mayor of Elroy. That’s a race he’d be sure to win!

Announcing the Bay View Community Garden

Passing this along. I had eyed this site before, so I’m glad someone is taking the initiative and helping to make it happen.
From Melissa Tashjian:
I just wanted to reach out and share some news about the new Bay View Community Garden site.  The developers of the Hide House have graciously given us a 3 year no-charge lease for the 1/2 block property on Burrell and Deer street. [Zoom in with Street View to see the lot. - JH] I know that Turkey Day is just a few days away but I wanted to invite everyone to help get the soil ready for spring.  There is about 10 bags of chicken poop that I would like to lay down.  Please bring any leaves, hay, or cardbord boxes that you have at your disposal. Have a great Turkey Day!!!  Please respond to let me know if you think you can make it :)
This Saturday, 11-28-09, from 1:00-? on the corner of Burrell & Deer street in Bay View.
An unused lot is finding productive use. Very cool.
Comment here if you want to get in touch with Melissa, and I’ll arrange it for you.

The Milwaukee Community Compost Network is directly related to this. Outpost, Stone Creek Coffee, Sven’s Cafe and Transfer Pizzeria are among the many local businesses contribute their food scraps to this cause. All that waste that would have gone to the landfill now goes to help make great nwe soil for the burgeoning urban gardening movement. Thanks to all who help!

Henry Sanders announces candidacy for Wisc. Lt. Gov.

Henry Sanders of Middleton (Dane County) has announced his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin. Running as a Democratic Party candidate, Sanders will offer a geographical distinction over the two other best-known Democratic candidates, State Sen. Spencer Coggs and Ald. Tony Zielinski, who are both from Milwaukee County. I had heard a wish for more geographic diversity on the Democratic gubernatorial ticket, specifically speculation that an all-Milwaukee County ticket may not sell in other parts of the state. With Tom Barrett in the race, Milwaukee is in no matter what.

Good luck to all three, and may the best candidate win.

Spam, you amuse me.

The spam on my UWM e-mail account, anyway, is amusing to me.

"Give us a call to get a diploma, one advertises.

"Online diplomas here,” claims another.

The offer for “Real University diplomas” is almost tempting.

Almost, as I am about to graduate from UWM with a very deserved and very real diploma. Why they send it to my UWM address, I’ll never know.

Congrats, Sachin!

Congratulations to Sachin Chheda, who was elected as chair of the Democratic Party of Milwaukee County.

Thanks also to Tyrone Daniels for his candidacy, and to Martha Love for her many years of service.

Both seek to get out of Dodge before the house burns down.

It’s Bay View. Not “Bayview.”

It’s Riverwest. Not “River West.”

To borrow a page from Kinky Friedman, why the hell not?

Dan Cody’s brother wrote a book. A book about explosions.

And that is probably the most inaccurate five word description of the book that one could come up with.

It’s not that Dan’s brother Jonathon wrote about about explosions, or even blowing stuff up. It’s that he does that. And he does it for the U.S. Army.

I had no idea that Dan had a brother, or that his brother was in the Army. Or for that matter that he has a brother than blows stuff up. And that sounds amazingly cool until you think about the context that he does it in. It’s not for a TV show or the movies. He blows up bombs that were placed to kill people.

But back to blowing stuff up. “Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown” is available for purchase on Amazon.com. And I marvel at the picture on the cover:

That’s him. Blowing up a bomb that was made to kill people.

Wow.

Check it out.
