This summer, Milwaukee’s beautiful Humboldt Park on the south side is host to the Chill on the Hill concerts. According to the Chill’s press announcement, “Chill on the Hill is a family-friendly event taking place every Tuesday night and parking is plentiful. Opening acts comprised of local school and youth groups will begin the fun at 6:00 pm with bands taking the stage at 6:30. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the eclectic mix of music that the Chill on the Hill planning committee is working hard to provide. Additionally, the Milwaukee County Parks concessions truck will be on-hand for refreshments.”
It’s all true. My daughter loves the concerts, which so far this summer has featured De La Buena, Uptown Savages, and the Milwaukee American Legion Band. Still to come this month are The Cathouse Drifters (July 15 — happy birthday to me), The Danny Miller Band (July 22), and Esprit d’Brass (July 29). The concerts continue into August with The Chickadees and The Figureheads (Kids and Family Night); Reilly (Irish folk and rock); The Urbanites (reggae); and wrapping up with Swing Nouveau (big band/swing).
The Chill on the Hill concert series continues tonight with Testa Rosa and The Championship!
Personally speaking, I’m really looking forward to seeing Testa Rosa. The bands start at 6:30. Humboldt Park is right along the #11 bus line, and there’s plenty of parking if you choose to drive. See you there!
August 27: The last “Chill” was tonight. Thanks to everyone who played and was part of it, and I look forward to being a part of planning next year’s great concert events!
