Mayor Barrett outfoxes Walker the obstructionist, gets federal transit $

Well played, sir.

I must say that this may bring a wish of mine true. As a Milwaukee historian, I’ve read about and seen many pictures of the old street cars and the roads with the tracks right in them. I’ve long been a proponent of better transit, and it’s frustrated me that such things don’t exist much nowadays. But when cities like Phoenix, Dallas, and Charlotte, North Carolina are getting train/rail systems, you have to wonder why on earth Milwaukee isn’t. Or wasn’t. Hopefully now we will!

  1. Great great day for Milwaukee. In 5 years might we see the KRM, High Speed access to Chicago and Madison, a streetcar system to make downtown stronger, and possibly a couple new express bus lines? wow Plus the county got a bunch of money for a portion of the new buses they desperately needed.

  2. This is good news, but I’ll be curious to see how they integrate streetcars into the existing infrastructure…
