MLK Street Jam & BBQ going down today

Saturday, September 5, 2009

The 2009 MLK Street Jam & BBQ features Brew City’s Best BBQ Competition, a family-fun area, motorcycle-themed entertainment, BBQ and motorcycle-themed vendors, and a live music stage featuring In Black & White, the Terry Sims Band, and The Tempters.

The festival will take place in the Historic King Drive Business Improvement District on and around King Drive from Walnut to Brown Streets.

BBQ fans will definitely be interested in this:

“Brew City’s Best BBQ Competition is an official Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Sanctioned event. With over 10,000 members, KCBS sanctions almost 300 barbeque contests coast-to-coast across America.

Fifty BBQ competitors from across the city, state and country will be competing to be crowned the best BBQ in Brew City. Over $10,000 of cash and prizes will be awarded to the top competitor.”

Boy it took a while to find this, even via Google. None of our media mainstays JS, OMC, nor The Onion (!) have anything on this. Or at least nothing that revealed itself after cursory searches. What’s up with that, media?

Since we missed the Garfield Street fest, this will make a fine alternative.

Update: JS briefly mentioned the Street Jam on August 30, and has an online photo gallery today. Still nothing in the Shepherd’s web site, at OMC, or The Onion.
