Interview with an Astronaut

Wow! Richard Garriot, creator of the personally life-changing Ultima video games, has become a “private astronaut.” There’s a detailed interview with him over on Daily Kos. Can you imagine, being jammed into this tiny space in a rocket, laying on your back, when the G-forces suddenly start to increase… and a short time later, you find yourself in orbit around the Earth. That for me would be either pure liberation or pure torture, given my nascent height issues. (Sucks being a tall guy.)

(If you’re curious, Tea Leaves gives a literate yet concise account of what makes Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar such a great game. More blogs should be like that.)

So if you’ve got $30 million laying around, you too can become a space tourist private astronaut. If you earn it the old fashioned way as did Garriot, by golly, go for it. I’ll enjoy the view down here.
