As Reznor’s long-time Nine Inch Nails bandmate Danny Lohner write via Twitter, “Goths the world over will mourn this day – off to a wedding.” Who knew that it was Trent Reznor’s wedding he would be writing about? Or that dear old Trent would ever even get married?
Considering that I know at least three couples who’d gotten married for reasons in some way tangentially related to Nine Inch Nails — myself included (tbe first time, not the upcoming one) —I guess we can even imagine Trent Hizzself doing it. Considering that he seems to be in an infinitely better state than when I first saw him and his band in 1994, it may be the right thing for him to do. I wish him luck!
This reminds me of a very important text:
“Marriage is a vital social institution. The exclusive commitment of two individuals to each other nurtures love and mutual support; it brings stability to our society. For those who choose to marry, and for their children, marriage provides an abundance of legal, financial, and social benefits. In return it imposes weighty legal, financial, and social obligations.”
That is from the case Goodridge v. Department of Public Health, which brought marriage equality to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. And we’ll be reading from that when I get married this Saturday.
