Conservative/G.O.P. split in the process of occurring? (Part 3)

Hot news (and a predictable move) from the NY-23 special election: moderate Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava, who suspended her campaign after her own party threw itself en mass behind Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, has now endorsed Democratic Party candidate Bill Owens.

One race does not a scene set or a trend make. But will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

How it played out: Owens, the Democratic candidate, won. Thus this exercise upset decades many generations of the Republican hold on the seat. Low voter turnout elsewhere seems to have doomed other races not discussed on this blog (ME, NJ, VA).
