Tunes for Tuesday

Back in high school, I used to quip, “Every day is Tuesday!” For whatever that meant, here is the latest installment of Tunes for Tuesday.

What could be a better way to start this off than to sample some of the fair Slovenian avant-garde musical group Laibach? Legendary Chicago music label WaxTrax! was largely responsible for making Laibach known the the U.S. industrial rock underground in the 80s and 90s. Best known for their send-ups of fascist movements, they take a much more sedate approach to this song. But the video is a curious treat. Definitely easy on the eyes…

Next up is a live video of Wilco perfoming Woody Guthrie’s classic “California Stars.” It’s much more lively from the version on “Mermaid Avenue: Billy Bragg & Wilco.”.

Finally, we have one of my top favorite bands of all time, The Church, covering “Hiroshima Mon Amour” by Ultravox, on the album Box of Birds. No actual video, but rather just a still image. This one is all about the song.
