2010 Victory Garden Blitz is revving up!

No rest for the gleeful gardeners among us. Last year on Memorial Day weekend, the Victory Garden Initiative got to work all across the greater Milwaukee area and created over two thousand square feet of new garden space. At out house along, six 4×8′ raised beds were built, and our neighbor was so excited that she made one for herself too!

Take a look at the map of the garden sites we made across the area on this Google Map. It’s great! And for this year’s Memorial Weekend Victory Garden Blitz, we hope to build even more gardens in more places. We’re building off the tremendous success of the Bay View Hide House Community Garden — which over 150 volunteers created just last week. (!!!) And we know people got excited by last year’s Blitz. This one should be even better.

If you are interested in having a small part of your yard turned into a productive food garden, let’s get in touch. I’m helping coordinate efforts in Bay View and Milwaukee’s south side. Other folks are working in the north side and west sides, and I can get you in touch with them if need be. Cudahy, St. Francis, even South Milwaukee folks, please talk to me, preferably via comment on here.

On May 31st, we’ll be bringing lumber and dirt to yards all across Milwaukee. Don’t miss out! You too can enjoy the delicious homegrown food, good food that you yourself can grow.
