Wisconsin Green Party to lose ballot status?

A friend forwarded this to me:

The Wisconsin Green Party failed in its (last minute) attempt to qualify Pete Karas for Secretary of State, which means they will lose ballot status after November.

While I have no direct confirmation of this, but I’m inclined to believe it. It’s probably a bit embarrassing for the Greens, to say the least. I bet they’re quite intensely asking themselves how this happened. If this is indeed the case, it will be difficult for the Green to regain ballot status. If memory serves, they need to get 5% of the votes in gubernatorial race. (A commenter reports that it’s 1%.)

Note: They apparently lost ballot status back in 2008, and lost it for four (4) years.
