Word from Rep. Christine Sinicki is that the Assembly RTA bill will pass committee tomorrow, and should pass the Assembly as well. The real trick, apparently, will be to get it passed in the state Senate. Sen. Jeff Plale, who represents me, sent me a letter saying he’s co=sponsored an RTA bill. (I don’t haveContinue reading “Wisconsin RTA bill to pass Assembly committee, then Assembly… and what of the state Senate?”
Yup! Steve Glynn from Spreenkler will shave his head—and we’ll get a free lunch at Transfer Pizzeria—if we make the calls for transit! Details at Launch Milwaukee. Dude. Free lunch at Transfer? I’m calling my reps!
Link. ’bout time. Make no mistake: we voted for it, and we need it. Also, huge kudos to By Larry Sandler of the Journal Sentinel! Look at this line near the end of the story: “…Rep. Robin Vos (R-Caledonia), a KRM opponent who had insisted on referendums for new taxes, blasted the bill. Vos claimedContinue reading “Doyle’s transit plan sufaces at last (and a rant about TABOR)”

Capper, a.k.a. Chris Liebenthal has a new post up on the Milwaukee County First blog showing that public transit, be it by bus or rail, is good for communities. It’s a myth that no one takes the bus; many people in the County depend on it to get around. While it would be to ourContinue reading “[MCF] Public Transit Can Help Save Money And The Environment”
Does this mean CRG likes him now? I had a hunch this would happen, that Doyle would veto the transit portion of the budget if it didn’t exactly fit his vision for an RTA. So a big thing I’ve worked hard for since last November has been summarily swept away. Thanks for nothing, Mister Governor.Continue reading “Doyle vetoes new Milwaukee County sales tax, flushes transit as well”
The short story is that the Wisconsin State Assembly meets tomorrow to vote on the final state budget, and there are a few ammendments that will be put forward that would remove the sales tax support for our parks. We the people of Milwaukee County voted for that sales tax increase. And it passed! NowContinue reading “A final stand to save Milwaukee parks”
The sales tax that Scott Walker once vetoed has sprung back to life. Again.
Well played, sir. I must say that this may bring a wish of mine true. As a Milwaukee historian, I’ve read about and seen many pictures of the old street cars and the roads with the tracks right in them. I’ve long been a proponent of better transit, and it’s frustrated me that such thingsContinue reading “Mayor Barrett outfoxes Walker the obstructionist, gets federal transit $”
